Intertidal-2016

Saturday June 4 found volunteers from Sea Ranch, Gualala, and a student intern from Pomona College focussed on tidally exposed rocks at Walk On Beach in The Sea Ranch. This is part of a regular survey to track conditions and understand the health of rocky shores. Repeatable survey plots were laid out years ago. In each of these staff and volunteers counted and measured sea stars, Katy chitons, and California mussels. Other plots surveyed various species of algae and other marine plants. And photos documented it all. This Core Survey has been done, consistently, for many years through MARINe, the Multi-agency Rocky Intertidal Network and UC Santa Cruz, who send staff to work with local volunteers to collect the data.
